Mark and his family currently reside at 9 Ashley Court in the Pecan Park Estates Phase 2 Subdivision. He grew up in Long Beach and lived on 4th Street where his family has resided since 1958. He attended Long Beach Public Schools and graduated from Long Beach High School in 1975 before leaving to pursue an architectural degree at Mississippi State University. He earned a Bachelors of Architecture from Mississippi State University in 1983 and lived in Memphis, Tennessee for seventeen years before returning to Long Beach with his family in January 2000. He is married to Donna Lishen and has two sons, Ethan - 8 years old and Carter – 5 years old. Ethan is in second grade at Reeves Elementary and Carter attends First Baptist Preschool in Gulfport.
Mark is a partner with Guild Hardy Architects, an architectural firm with offices in Gulfport and Biloxi, where he is Partner-in-Charge of Business Development for their federal government and military markets. He is a current member of the American Institute of Architects and was past president of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Section of the American Institute of Architects in 2001. He is a current member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, where he is a registered architect in Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas. Mark is also a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and as a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional, he actively promotes smart-growth economic development and sustainable design.

Memphis Ronald McDonald House and served on the Board of Directors for
