Gary Ponthieux is now serving his second term as Alderman, Ward One of Long Beach, Mississippi.

 

    He currently serves on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and the Harrison County Council of Government. Previously, he has served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for six years and was chairman for two years. Gary also served on the Harrison County Tourism Commission for 3 years until being re-elected as Alderman.

 

    Gary values the duties as Alderman that his constituents have entrusted him to oversee. His goal has always been to bring more business to our city and Industrial Park. He is genuinely in favor of creating jobs locally for the people of Long Beach.

 

    He vigorously supported plans for a sports complex and Senior citizens center which has come to fruition and is named the Long Beach Activity – Senior Center which is located on 20257 Daugherty Road.

 

    Prior to Hurricane Katrina, Gary was a self-employed business owner for 30 successful years.

 

    He is actively involved in a number of youth activities to include being a Mississippi High School Athletics Association football official since 1988. 

 

    Gary is an avid fisherman.  As a member of Coastal Conservation Association, he cares genuinely about protecting our water and beautiful coastline. He also leads the charge in the Adopt-a-Roadway Program by adopting the first two miles of Highway 90 into Long Beach.

 

    Married for 41 years, Gary and his wife, Susan, live on South Seashore Avenue and have been coast residents for over 30 years. Both attend St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Long Beach. They have two children; Gary Jr., and Melissa and are proud grandparents of two darling little girls, Lilly & Luci; and a one handsome grandson, Nolan.
